The Accreditation and Student Operations Team of the American
Dietetic Association is pleased to announce the formation of a national student
organization within ADA to facilitate communications, address student-related
issues and provide an opportunity for students to network with their peers. It
is called the ADA Student Council. When students become members, they will
automatically be part of the ADA Student Council. This organization will promote
involvement of student members in ADA for the development of future
participation and leadership in the Association at the national, affiliate and
district levels. The ADA Student Council will have a Student Council Advisory
Committee (SCAC) and Michele, Turcotte, RD, LDN, Manager, Careers and Student
Services will be the staff partner. ADA's SCAC could consist of: Chair,
Vice-Chair, Student Delegate, CADE Student Representative and 4-6 additional
student representatives from across the country. Annually, SCAC will set goals
and objectives consistent with ADA's strategic plan.
One of the communications vehicles for student members is the
Web-based ADA Student Council Community of Interest (CoI). The purpose of this
CoI is to connect student members nationwide, provide a vehicle of communication
for our student representatives and delegate, allow student members to access
relevant education information, useful Web sites, articles, share ideas and
more! If your students have not yet joined ADA, please let them know of this new
member benefit. If they are ADA members and have not received an invitation to
join the CoI, please encourage them to update their e-mail address information
with ADA so we can send them an invitation.
